Day 1  

Departure from the USA bound for France!  

Day 2

Paris  We are met by our European Institute Tour Director and accompanied to our centrally located hotel, before we begin to explore this incredible city.
 

Day 3

Paris   Today our local guide introduces us to Napoleon's grand Arc de Triomphe, the famous Champs Elysées, Place de la Concorde, magnificent Place Vendome and finishes our tour with a visit to one of Europe's most beautiful cathedrals, Notre Dame.

After lunch a visit is included to the Louvre Museum.

This evening we go to top of the Eiffel Tower for a 'bird's eye view' of the city!

 

Day 4

Paris   Today is an opportunity for us to either explore Paris further or join our excursion the Palace of Versailles and Chartres. Our day commences with a visit to Louis XIV's Versailles. Our tour takes us through the 250 foot long hall of mirrors and the royal apartments to the magnificent gardens and Marie Antoinette's Petit Hameau.

 

Continue to Chartres Cathedral where Pilgrims have been journeying for eight centuries to gaze in wonder at the magnificent gothic architecture and stained glass windows (*Malcolm Miller tour when available).

 

This evening we take a romantic Seine river cruise.
 

Day 5

Biarritz   Enjoy the scenery of the beautiful French countryside from our Train a Grande Vitesse (TGV) as we ride to the chic resort of Biarritz.

 

Day 6

Biarritz  Today we have the choice to either explore relaxing Biarritz or take our excursion across the border to Spain and San Sebastian, capital of one of the Basque provinces.

 

The Old Quarter of this harbor city sits on a rocky peninsular and was long a fortress defending the Basque coast.

 

Day 7

Provence  Journey across southern France to Provence stopping at the unspoilt medieval fortress of Carcassone.

 

Day 8

Provence   Today we will be visiting the Roman city of Nimes featuring its great amphitheatre, gardens and the Maison Carrée (square house). On to the largest free standing Roman aqueduct in Europe, the Pont du Gard for lunch.

 

Day 9

Nice   This morning we meander through the hills of Provence to see the hill top castle of Les Baux de Provence.

 

We will stop for lunch in Aix-en-Provence before continuing to the blue waters of the Cote d'Azur and the resort of Nice.

Day 10

Nice   This morning we travel the spectacular coastline route to the principality of Monaco, one of the smallest countries in Europe. We will also take a trip to the highest cliff-top village in France, Eze.

 

Day 11 Return to the USA.
