Day 1  

Departure from the USA bound for Spain!

Day 2

Barcelona   We are met by our European Institute Tour Director and accompanied to our centrally located hotel, before we begin exploring this incredible city.

 

Day 3

Barcelona   Barcelona, host of the 1992 Olympic Games, abounds in historical sights including the magnificent Cathedral, which we visit with our local guide, the old Gothic Quarter and Gaudi's unusual Sagrada Familia Church.

 

Day 4

Provence   Enjoy the beautiful countryside as you travel across the border to France and beautiful Provence. Lunch will be at the unspoiled medieval fortress of Carcassonne. Learn how this bastion repelled invaders through the centuries with its walled defenses.

 

Day 5

Nice   Provence was so named once the Romans had completed the invasion of this 'Province'. We are visiting the Roman city of Nimes, featuring its great amphitheatre, gardens and the Maison Carrιe.

 

On to the largest free standing Roman aqueduct in Europe, the Pont du Gard for lunch. Continue on to Nice for overnight.

 

Day 6

Nice   Our sightseeing tour includes the lively Promenade des Anglais and the ornate Russian Orthodox Church.

 

Later this morning we travel the spectacular coastline route to the principality of Monaco, one of the smallest countries in Europe.

 

We will also take a trip to the highest cliff-top village in France, Eze.

Day 7

Florence Area   We continue along the Mediterranean coast into Italy, stopping at Pisa to see the Leaning Tower, before arriving in Florence , home of the Renaissance.

 

Day 8

Rome   Our morning sightseeing of Florence shows us Michelangelo's "David", Brunelleschi's masterpiece, the Duomo, the Piazza della Signoria, and the Church of Santa Croce. Time to explore this vibrant city and then on to Rome.

 

Day 9

Rome   Our local guide proudly shows us the Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museum and St Peter's- mother church of the Catholic faith.

 

Later our tour director leads us on a Walking Tour to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

 

Day 10 Return to the USA.
