Day 1  

Departure from the USA.

Day 2

Vienna   We are met by our European Institute Tour Director and accompanied to our centrally located hotel, before we begin exploring Vienna.

 

Day 3

Vienna   Our sightseeing today reveals reflections of both imperial and contemporary Vienna. Our local guide introduces us to the Ring, Emperor Franz Josef's Hofburg Palace, the Cathedral of St. Stephen and the State Opera.

 

Then, an included visit to Schoenbrunn Palace with its magnificently preserved staterooms and exquisite gardens.

 

Day 4

Salzburg   A morning drive along the Wachau region of the Danube Valley to see Richard the Lionheart's castle at Durnstein and the monastery of Melk. Continue to Salzburg scene of "The Sound of Music" and birthplace of Mozart.

 

Day 5

Salzburg   A guided tour of Salzburg with a local guide includes Mozart's Birthplace and St. Peter's Cathedral where the Von Trapp family sought refuge in their escape from Nazi Germany.

 

Tonight you are invited to a private concert of Mozart's music in a local Count's private home.

 

Day 6

Munich   We journey this morning across the border to Germany for incredible views at Berchtesgaden (site of Hitler's Eagle Nest). Continue through the forested landscape of southern Bavaria to Munich.

 

Day 7

Munich   Sightseeing with our local guide shows us the Olympic Stadium, Frauenkirche and the famous Glockenspiel in the Marienplatz town hall square.

 

Day 8

Lucerne   Nestled in the Bavarian Alps we find King Ludwig's magnificent castle of Neuschwanstein (inspiration for the Disney castle) before continuing across the border to Switzerland.

 

Day 9

Lucerne   Sightseeing of Lucerne with your Tour Director includes the moving Swiss Lion Monument, the mural-decorated wooden bridge, and the Old Town.

 

Plenty of time at leisure this morning to shop for Swiss watches, chocolate, take a hike in the Alps or just enjoy the mountain scenery from a boat ride along Lake Lucerne.

 

This afternoon perhaps enjoy a sensational alpine vista in our optional cable car ride up 7000 foot Mt. Pilatus.

 

Day 10 Return to the USA.
